Reflecting on the evolution of corneal surgery from the early 20th century, including the significant advancement in the 1970s with keratorefractive surgery pioneered by José Ignacio Barraquer, MD, and the tissue-conserving progress in endothelial keratoplasty by Gerrit Melles, MD, PhD; Mark A. Terry, MD; and Francis W. Price Jr, MD, we recognize the tremendous strides made in this field. As this issue highlights the notable advancements, it also underscores our commitment to ongoing exploration and innovation in corneal surgery.

The approaches discussed traverse the entire cornea, from anterior treatments such as losartan for corneal scarring reduction, innovative thermal keratoplasty techniques, corneal allografts, advanced corneal imaging methods, and procedures such as PRK, LASIK, and SMILE, to posterior advances, including novel endothelial replacement strategies. Contributors also explore the potential impact of refractive indexing and the challenges that phakic IOLs present to keratorefractive surgery.
