A New Algorithm for Diagnosing the Severity of Dry Eye
By Gerd Geerling, MD, PhD, FEBO, and Christophe Baudouin, MD, PhD, FARVO, on behalf of the ODISSEY European Consensus Group
The multinational Ocular Dryness Disease Severity (ODISSEY) European Consensus Group has published recommendations for a practical two-step algorithm that is specifically designed to address the discordance between the signs and symptomatic evaluation of dry eye disease. The first step is to establish fundamental criteria, and the second step is to consider additional criteria.

Assessing Signs and Symptoms of Dry Eye Disease
By Stefano Barabino, MD, PhD
When you see a patient with symptoms of dry eye, keep in mind that you are dealing with the whole ocular surface. Look at the lid margins, the cornea, the conjunctiva, the epithelium, and the tear film, and consider them as a functional unit.

Femto and Phaco—the Perfect Marriage
By Subba R. Gollamudi, MD
The two case studies presented in this article demonstrate how the synergy of combining some of the newest innovations in laser cataract surgery and phacoemulsification can produce a safe and predictable outcome. Pairing technologies can enhance safety by preserving the endothelium and zonules, reducing the amount of phaco energy used, and increasing the surgeon’s confidence and ability to minimize complications.

Strategies for Successful EHR Implementation
By Timothy J. Archer, MA(Oxon), DipCompSci(Cantab)
Although implementing an electronic health record system requires a great deal of forethought and motivation, using these systems affords many benefits. They include saved cost and time, greater access to patient data, more storage space, and more ways to organize materials. Meticulous template design and thorough staff training can ease the transition.
