SUBLUXATED CAPSULAR-BAG COMPLEX WITH ENDOCAPSULAR RING AND DISLOCATED SEGMENT
By Priya Narang, MS
A 54-year-old woman presented with a history of cataract surgery performed 4 years earlier. On examination, she had a subluxated capsular bag- IOL complex with an endocapsular ring, a dislocated segment, and a three-piece IOL in the bag. The decision was made to repair the lens with a glued IOL technique. This obviated the need to enlarge the incision and facilitated a closed-chamber procedure, although challenges remained. These cases require a thorough preoperative assessment, a lot of intraoperative surgical care, and contingency plans.
FEMTOSECOND LASER-ASSISTED CORNEAL TATTOO
By Chris Komanski, MD, and Keith Walter, MD
Drs. Walter and Komanski explain how to use the femtosecond laser to make channels in the cornea and place tattoo pigment in those channels to cover iris defects. The approach is an alternative to an iris prosthesis or iris suturing, and it is useful for addressing troublesome glare from laser iridotomies after implantation of the Visian ICL (STAAR Surgical).
