The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has announced the winners of the World Sight Day 2022 Photo Competition. An independent panel of seven judges from around the world selected this year’s winners.

The judges have chosen "Eye Screening at Jukwa, Ghana," by Kwame Yeboah as this year’s winning professional Photo of the Year, and "Refraction," by Laite Tuiloma as the winning amateur Photo of the Year.

Judge Imraan Gallo, Visually Impaired Photographer & Advocate for Artists with Disabilities, said of this year professional Photo of the Year, “The image encompasses the broader reach of eye health services to remote parts of the world. I'd put this image on the cover of a magazine because it truly represents that we should strive to provide these services to all.”

Winners were selected from 960 images submitted from over 60 countries.

“The success of this years’ photo competition reflects the significant leap in engagement we have seen for World Sight Day. It is staggering the way people have encompassed and celebrated World Sight Day like never before," Simon Darvill, Head of Communications and Campaigns, IAPB, said in a company news release. "The photo competition, that is always a highlight, has benefited from that exposure and the quality of submissions are second to none. I don’t envy the judges having to choose our winners from such a great selection.”
