Vyome Announces Positive Preclinical Data for VT-1908 as Potential New Treatment for Uveitis Globally

Vyome Holdings announced the publication of new preclinical data supporting the efficacy and safety of VT-1908, its investigational topical therapy for uveitis.
According to the newly published study, published in the Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection, topical administration of VT-1908 eye drops achieved therapeutic drug concentrations in ocular tissues without causing irritation or signs of toxicity. In a preclinical uveitis model, VT-1908-treated eyes demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in uveitis severity (P<0.0010), along with reduced lymphocyte counts in the anterior chamber, compared with vehicle controls. Notably, VT-1908 was found to be as effective as topical prednisone, a commonly used steroid treatment.
“The broader addressable global market to treat inflammation in the eye is expected to exceed $20 billion by 2030. Based on our preclinical findings, we intend to leverage the India innovation corridor to advance VT-1908 into clinical development in a highly capital-efficient manner, with the goal of generating human clinical data that could drive a significant value inflection," said Venkat Nelabhotla, Chief Executive Officer of Vyome.
“There remains a significant unmet need for safe and effective topically administered therapies to replace topical steroid use in the treatment of ocular inflammation,” said Dr. Shiladitya Sengupta, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and co-founder of Vyome. “While steroids are widely used, they are associated with well-documented complications. The fact that VT-1908 was as effective as a steroid in the uveitis preclinical model and shows a very good safety profile supports its potential as an effective alternative to steroids in the eye.”
