Horizon Shares New Findings From Survey of People Living with NMOSD

03/09/2023

In recognition of NMO Awareness Month this March, Horizon Therapeutics is continuing the “NMOSD Won’t Stop Me” initiative, sharing new findings from a community survey of people living with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) conducted in collaboration with the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation, Siegel Rare Neuroimmune Associationand The Sumaira Foundation. The results of the survey underscore the connection between having an engaged, active partnership with one’s healthcare team and improved satisfaction with care, according to Horizon.

The online survey of people living with NMOSD and their care partners revealed that one in three respondents report that their bad days—which can involve excruciating pain, extreme fatigue and depression, among other debilitating symptoms—outweigh their good days. This speaks to the importance of self-advocacy, as patients who are more engaged in their health report increased care satisfaction and more good days. Learn more about the survey here.

Horizon Therapeutics is teaming up again with Christine Ha, the first blind contestant of MasterChef and winner of the show’s third season, who has been living with NMOSD for 20 years. Christine is encouraging people living with NMOSD and their care partners to advocate for their health and raise concerns to their healthcare team.
