Reichert 7CR Auto Tonometer
Reichert, Inc. (Buffalo, NY), introduced the new Reichert 7CR Auto Tonometer with corneal response technology. It is designed with patented bidirectional applanation technology to quantify the biomechanical properties of the cornea, which reportedly permits the determination of cornea-compensated IOP. According to the company, this measurement provides physicians with a better understanding of patients’ tonometry values and enhances clinicians’ ability to make critical diagnoses and treatment decisions.
OIS EyeScan
The OIS EyeScan (Ophthalmic Imaging Systems, Sacramento, CA) is reportedly the only portable imaging device that captures images of both the anterior and posterior segment of the eye. It functions with other devices using the fully integrated OIS Symphony Image Management Solution. The OIS EyeScan was designed to address the shift in health care demand due to aging populations and the rapid rise in the incidence of diabetes.
Multi-tension Lid Speculum
Krolman Corporation (Boston, MA) introduced the new Multi-tension Lid Speculum. The instrument is constructed of featherweight plastic with balltipped posts that are designed to increase patients’ comfort and reduce the torsion caused by metal instruments. A blunt lower blade reportedly minimizes the occurrence of ptosis. Tension can be adjusted by slowly squeezing the speculum to weaken its molecular bonds. The plastic at the hinge’s apex will gradually turn from green to white as the spring tension decreases to the chosen strength. The instrument’s contoured, solid eyelash deflectors reportedly provide an unobstructed view and reduce the risk of infection.
MacPractice iPhone Interface 2.0
The new MacPractice iPhone Interface 2.0 (MacPractice, Inc., Lincoln, NE) includes a new calendar, optimized performance, and updated security features. Patients’ photographs, prescription history, and appointment history are accessible through the interface. When out of the office, physicians can enter clinical notes, access referring physicians, set reminders for staff, and view up-todate daily management reports. Users can also connect to an in-office database to access schedules and patients’ records.
