Jerry Hu, MD, designed the Hu Femto Forceps (Katena Products, Inc.) to aid in the opening of primary, paracentesis, and limbal relaxing incisions created by a femtosecond laser. According to the company, the fine tips of the forceps can be easily inserted into the laser-perforated incision, and manual separation along the entire length of the wound is completed using the lateral spreading motion of the crossaction jaws. The ergonomically shaped curvature of the handle also allows the surgeon to use the forceps to open or reopen arcuate incisions at the slit lamp with the patient seated in an upright position.
