Stellaris Procedural Choice Vision Enhancement System
Bausch + Lomb (Rochester, NY) announced the launch of the Stellaris Procedural Choice (PC) Vision Enhancement System. The combined vitrectomy and phacoemulsification system provides surgeons with a platform for the smallest incisions for both retinal and cataract surgeries, according to the company. It permits phacoemulsification through a 1.8-mm cataract incision, and it is a complement to Bausch + Lomb’s TSV 25-gauge system of instruments for retinal surgery along with the 23-gauge and standard 20-gauge instruments. The Stellaris PC replaces the Millennium Microsurgical System.

Vivid Light LED Light Source
The Optilase Group (Colleyville, TX) introduced the Vivid Light LED light source for traditional slit lamps. The product is designed to provide a clearer view of the eye without generating the heat and radiation of a tungsten bulb. The FDA approved Vivid Light LED light sources in 2009 for use in slit lamps manufactured by Haag-Streit USA Inc. (Mason, OH). The Vivid Light LED light source produces greater power and a crisper slit in the visible light spectrum, which eliminates the shadows caused by tungsten filaments, according to a news release. The light reportedly pierces cataracts for a wider view of the retina and provides brilliant detail of the cornea and optical vessels.
